Do opposites really attract?

I really wanted to know, so I worked diligently to finish my Spinning Wheel glass mat.

In this case, I believe opposites really do attract. I'm not sure which one I like better. They may have to stay together forever!

Since this is the last day of March, it's time for a picture of my March tatting. I did have five more motifs, but those were sent off to Michelle's students. All in all, March seems to have been a very productive month!

A little of this, a little of that

Today was one of those days when I was easily distracted. I did a little reorganizing around the house, used up leftovers for dinner, tatted a little here and a little there. At least I accomplished something!

A tiny bit of tatting time

With all the company, I've been finding it hard to get much tatting done. However, I did manage to get a tiny bit done on my latest Spinning Wheel glass mat!

Round 3 finished!

I love the Gold!

I think this is going to be gorgeous with the next round in Charcoal.

We had another busy day, the last day of my spring break. Joanne and the babies will be spending a few days at my sister-in-law's house.

I'm going to miss seeing these two little cuties rolling around on the floor, and I will miss big sister Sophia giving me morning snuggles. It will only be for a few days, though. I'll have them back home on Friday!

Reversing colors

I liked the green and blue of the last Spinning Wheel so much, that I decided to tat another with the colors reversed. I think I like it!

Grandma, I like it!

Thank you, Sophia! I like it too!

This is my first time to finish a Spinning Wheel glass mat in two colors. I wasn't sure I would like it. I'm not fond of the way it looks in the picture, but in person it's stunning!

This one is in size 20 Lizbeth Leaf Green Lt and Wedgewood Dk. I really like the two colors together!

Tatting at Carol's

Daughter Carol refuses to be drawn to "the dark side." She's the only one of my daughters who avoids any kind of fiber art like the plague. However, she does allow me to tat at her house!

Sophia and Wally kept me company while I tatted. Carol took this picture to show how much Wally loves me. This is very strange, because I am not a cat lover. However, Wally seems determined to win me over!

I had hoped to finish this Spinning Wheel glass mat today, but time spent visiting, shopping, and soothing babies took priority!

Rainy day tatting

It was a drippy, dreary day here today... just the kind of weather that makes me want to curl up with a book. Instead, I spent my morning tatting!

In between cooking and cuddling babies, I managed to get quite a bit done on my newest Concentric Rectangles doily. I really like the feel of the Lizbeth Gold #611. It's so smooth!

Snuggle time

I spent lots of time snuggling babies today, so I didn't tat much. However...

I did manage to find time to start another Spinning Wheel glass mat! I decided to use two colors this time. I'm eager to see how this one turns out!

Rumplestiltskin

Timing was everything today. I guess nap times worked out to my advantage, because I managed to cook three meals, go grocery shopping, and do two loads of laundry with the help of my grandchildren and daughter. To top it all off, I was able to finish my Gold Spinning Wheel glass mat.

I think Rumplestiltskin would be proud!

Slow tatting

I didn't have much time to tat today. Daughter Joanne is visiting with the twins and Sophia. Daughter Alison is feeling under the weather, so Eva and Aidan are staying with me for a couple of days so that she can get some rest. With a house full of children, I've been a little busy today!

Still, I did manage to get a little done, and that makes me happy!

Spinning gold

As I was working on my newest Spinning Wheel glass mat in size 20 Lizbeth Gold #611, I kept thinking of the story of Rumplestiltskin. Remember how he spun straw into gold? The connections are so obvious, I know I will always think of this as my Rumplestiltskin Spinning Wheel!

Goin' for the gold

I knew the next round would be Lizbeth Gold #611 from the very beginning. I love it next to the Charcoal!

Round 2 finished!

I do love this Concentric Rectangles doily! I have my next color chosen, and I'm really excited to see how it looks next to the Charcoal and Victorian Red.

What's that? You want to know which color I've chosen? I guess you'll have to wait and see!

High hopes

I had high hopes of finishing round two of my Concentric Rectangles doily today. However, I ran out of steam. Still, I made decent progress!

Tuesday, March 15, 2016

For the second round...

I chose Charcoal!

My original plan was to use black, but when I saw the Lizbeth Charcoal #606, I knew I had to use it for the second round. I think it's perfect!

Starting another

Yes, it's true. I love the Concentric Rectangles doily so much, I've started another. The center of this one is size 20 Lizbeth, Victorian Red #670. Can you guess which color comes next?

Victorian Red Spinning Wheel

My mom's favorite color is red. So the whole time I was tatting this Spinning Wheel, I was thinking of Mom. Isn't it pretty?

The thread is size 20 Lizbeth, Victorian Red #670. So far, I've been meeting my goal of tatting at least one Spinning Wheel glass mat each week!

Concentric Rectangles doily... finished!

I'm glad I made the decision to wait until morning to work on my little mistake that I found last night. I snipped out the little section that needed an extra chain and fixed it before school. When I got home from school, I finished off the little bit that was left on the final round. The result...

I love it!

So close

I had hoped to finish my Concentric Rectangles doily tonight. However...

I found another mistake in the blue round, another missing section of chain. So, I'll be spending some time fixing it. It really won't take too long, but I'm feeling kind of tired and I think it would be wise to wait until I'm a little more focused. Enough for tonight!

Another corner turned

The end is in sight! I hope to finish my Concentric Rectangles doily in the next couple of days.

I might have finished the rectangular doily if I hadn't spent so much time working on my latest Spinning Wheel glass mat in Lizbeth Twirlz, Mermaid Lagoon #404. I think this might be my favorite Twirlz color!

Good progress!

It looks like I'm about half way around on my Concentric Rectangles doily! I do love this pattern. In fact, I have another all planned out!

Minor repair

As often happens, I found a mistake in the previous row while tatting in green. Luckily, it was a simple mistake, a missing section of chain. So, I snipped out the mistake, tatted the correct length of chain, and returned to the final round.

I wouldn't have had the confidence to do that a few years ago. In fact, I probably wouldn't have thought of it! I know I would have snipped off the entire round and started over. I'm so glad I've learned to look at mistakes in a different way. I credit that to all the wonderful bloggers who share their tips and techniques. Thank you all!

I had enough thread left on my shuttles to tat another Emmy Liebert motif. I'm really enjoying this little pattern!

Autumn Breeze Spinning Wheel

When I first used Lizbeth Twirlz, I was not a fan. I found it difficult to keep my stitches even, and it was very difficult to pick out mistakes. However, the more I use it, the more I like it!

I finished this Spinning Wheel today. It's in size 20 Lizbeth Twirl, Autumn Breeze #408. Time to wind my shuttles!

More motifs for Michelle

I was able to tat three more motifs for Michelle's tatting students today. This Emmy Liebert motif from Georgia Seitz's Online Tatting Class is very addictive, and it's a great way to use up thread left on shuttles!

Motif tatting

My friend Michelle put out a request for motifs for her tatting students, something I just couldn't resist!

I've been wanting to tat this Emmy Liebert design from Georgia Seitz's Online Tatting Class. I think it's perfect for showing possibilities to Michelle's young tatters!

If you look at the two carefully, you will see that there is a design element change in the violet motif. I followed the wrong part of the pattern for the three bottom chains! I still think it looks nice. It just isn't Emmy's design. My goal is to finish the five motifs over the weekend and mail them off on Monday. I think that's do-able!

Lovin' the green

I knew from the beginning that I wanted the final round of my Concentric Rectangles doily to be in Leaf Green Lt. The only change I made from my original plan wast to have the band of Antique Violet Med. in the third round. My original plan was to just alternate the green and blue. I think I may tat another using just the blue and green. I really like the way this is looking, though.

My newest Spinning Wheel glass mat is in size 20 Lizbeth Twirlz, Autumn Breeze #408. The kids at school really like the color of this thread, which surprised me. The usually go for the bright colors. When guessing the color name, Chloe came the closest with Autumn Leaves... not a bad guess, Chloe!

March comes in like a lion!

It definitely did here! The temperature dropped. We had rain, sleet, and snow. Luckily, it was warm enough that nothing stuck. Still, I'm bundled up in my cozy winter robe tonight, enjoying the fire in our corn stove.

I decided to focus on my newest Spinning Wheel glass mat today. I'm glad I did, because I was able to finish it! This one is in size 20 Lizbeth, Vineyard Harvest #131. Have I mentioned that I love this pattern? ;-)
